The Solar Ground Mount system utilizes both durable rails and locally-sourced steel pipes to form an affordable structure that can manage any type of terrain challenge.
Setting up the system is straightforward, as it only involves a small number of essential parts and doesn't require any drilling, welding, or large machinery. This system is compatible with different foundation choices, such as concrete piers and driven piles, and has the capacity to hold up to 5 modules on each column.

Solar Standard Rails Assembly
Modules are attached to the rails to form a vertical column between the upper North pipe and the lower South pipe. The special spanning feature of rails allows for the connection of up to 5 modules in a horizontal arrangement within each column.
You can choose between clear or black finishes for all the parts used in the rail assembly. Additionally, the clamps come in various sizes to fit the frames of different standard modules.
Top Cap & Rail Connectors
Fasten cast aluminum Top Caps onto upright posts using set screws, and use companion U-bolt hardware to also hold cross pipes in place. These Top Caps come in sizes for 5 cm and 7.5 cm schedule-40 pipes. Connect Y Rails to the cross pipes with 1 cm nuts and bolts using Rail Connectors.
Schedule 40 Galvanized Pipe
The main supporting part of the Ground Mount System is made from schedule--40 steel pipes.
Using steel pipes from nearby sources reduces both material and shipping expenses. It also speeds up construction and offers more adaptability.
Furthermore, the Ground Mount System is compatible with various foundation types, such as concrete piers, pile-driven piers, and many others.

- When should I choose 7.5 cm over 5 cm Schedule 40 steel pipe for my sub-structural material?For smaller setups like residential applications, it's better to go with 5 cm Schedule 40 steel pipe. It's lighter and easier to handle. On the other hand, for larger setups, where longer east-west spans are needed to reduce the number of concrete foundations, 7.5 cm Schedule 40 steel pipe is more suitable. Just remember that the 7.5 cm pipe is heavier and might require heavy machinery for installation. Make sure to check the specifications in the Ground Mount Engineering Design Guide before buying the pipes.How should I connect my Schedule 40 steel cross pipe?The most common way to connect Schedule 40 steel pipes is by using threaded couplers. You can either order "threaded pipes" from the manufacturer or have a threading tool available on-site. Alternatively, you can directly weld the pipes together or use welded couplers. Keep in mind that splices should not be placed within the middle third of the span or on the end span (cantilever) of the cross pipe.My soil is rocky. Are there alternative foundation designs besides concrete footings?Solar provides standard foundation sizes for different soil types. However, if you have challenging soils like granite or rocky soil, you can consider options like epoxying rebar into the rock and pouring foundations above the ground, connecting piers with low-depth grade beams, or casting piers into above-ground ballast blocks.How is the North to South pier spacing determined?The North to South pier dimensions are fixed measurements in our Ground Mount design, either 19 cm or 23 cm, depending on the number of modules per column.What considerations matter when building an array on an East to West slope?For arrays on an East to West slope, keep in mind that the maximum "above ground length" for southern vertical piers should be 75 cm. To avoid exceeding this length on either side of the array, break the array into segments. This "stepped" array design prevents one side from becoming too high. If this isn't feasible, consult an engineer for alternative solutions.How do I support my vertical piers during concrete pouring?Many installers use temporary "forms" to suspend the East to West cross pipes, which already have the vertical pipes attached. This method allows you to assemble and level your sub-structure at the right height before pouring all the concrete at once. Always refer to the Ground Mount Installation Manual before starting assembly.How do I calculate row spacing to prevent shading?Calculating row spacing to avoid shading depends on your acceptable level of annual "shade loss," which is the system output lost to inter-row shading.
